雅思試寫作卷一 ( IELTS Writing Task 1 ) Line Graph

上一篇教大家如何描述線圖內走線上升和下跌的形態和趨勢。今次我繼續介紹如何使用英文表達線圖會經常出現的另一種狀態。

首先，我們再使用在上一篇文章中的圖來解釋如何走線的另一特別形態。

圖一 Annual Exports of Bottled Wine of Country A

圖一顯示 Country A 由 2000 年至 2024 年的瓶裝餐酒的出口情況。大家會留意到 Country A 瓶裝餐酒出口由 2019 年至 2024 年這六年期間沒出現任何變化，如一條平坦的橫線。如果要用英文來形容這個狀態，考生有以下的選擇：

例句一：

There was no change in the exports between 2019 and 2024.

例句二：

Country A's table wine exports did not change from 2019 to 2024.

例句三：

Looking at the chart, it can be seen that bottled wine exports of Country A stayed unchanged for six consecutive years from 2019 to 2024.

事實上，上面句子中的劃了底線的詞匯還有有許多替代選擇，例如：remained unchanged，remained constant，remained stable，remained static 和 remained at the same level at 4 million bottles each year from 2019 to 2024。

例句四：

Over the 6-year period from 2019 to 2024, exports remained unchanged.

我也想特別介紹兩個用詞表表達走線沒有變化的狀況，它們是：plateau 和 level off。

例句五：

Country A's exports of bottled wines reached a plateau (名詞) in a 6-year period between 2019 and 2024.

Plateau 這個字也可以當作動詞用。見下句：

例句六：

Country A's exports of bottled wines plateaued (動詞) at a level of 4 million in a 6-year period between 2019 and 2024.

但如果考生欲進一步描繪經過六年出口無任何變動後急劇下滑的特別情況，可以先用 level off 這 phrasal verb (短語動詞) 和形容急速下降的英文字眼來這樣寫：

例句七：

As can be seen, after levelling off for six years, Country A's exports of bottled wines started plunging dramatically in 2024.

大家還記得我之前介紹了不同形容詞來來描述不同的下落狀態。我們現在就嘗試利用所學的一些字應用這個狀態，除了上面的 plunging dramatically 之外，還可以用falling sharply，declining suddenly 和 plummeting。

下一篇我會教大家如何重點比較線圖內由三至四條走線所顯示的的資訊，畢竟雅思學術寫作一（IELTS Academic Writing Task One）的線圖問題不會只展出一條線，而且 IELTS 也指明要求考生為圖表內相關的資訊進行比較（make comparison where relevant）。
